Welcome to Creative Word

Creative Word began with poetry and chronic pain.  It is now chronicling a new career and attitude to life.  With a positive outlook, many things are possible.

David finally found the time to write when he was unable to work with on-going back problems.  He put the many hours spent lying on the floor to good use by writing his first children's book Super Aida.  He has now judged it not good enough for publication and has hidden it away in a bottom drawer somewhere.

His second book SJA Cadets - Vicki's Story is based around a member of a St John Ambulance cadet group, and it is currently drawing interest from a major UK publisher.  He has also written two picture books for younger children, Bathtime for Bengy and The Fox and the Box which are regularly sent out to publishers (and so far, always returned!)

After leaving his job in London, David become a qualified adult tutor and now works for the WEA, Basildon Hospital Trust, Millrace IT and other charities.  He also offers tutorials with creative writing groups in the South East.

It was after attending the pain management programme at Basildon Hospital in Essex, that David began applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to writing poetry.  He found it very helpful, and has since become a member of the Patient Liaison Committee of the British Pain Society.

David has produced a poetry collection based on his own experiences with pain entitled Tunnel Vision, and is now busy with his third book, Away to Danger.  It is about the experiences of an eleven year old boy during the early part of World War II.  You can check out his progress on his Blog (click on the link to the right).

In the meantime he is studying and developing his writing craft through various courses, including a Writer's News home study class, and various modules from the Open University English Department.

We hope you enjoy lookng over the Creative Word website.  Please don't forget that ...

In this busy world, it's always worth the time to consider the...
